Zeus Vs. Thor

In mythology, Zeus and thor are both associated with thunder, lightning, and they both have a enourmus amount of strength. Although they are alike in many ways, they also differ in what there role was in mythology. With that in mind, the real question is, which god is better.

In Greek mythology, Zeus is the god of thunder. Zeuses, along with all the other gods, lives ontop of Mount Olympus with his two brothers, three sisters, and eight children. Before we get to his life as god of all gods though, lets talk about his childhood. Zeuses mother was Rhea and his father was Cronus. Since Cronus knew that one of his sons was going to be stronger than him, everytime Rhea gave birth, he swallowed the baby. When Rhea was expected to give birth for the sixth time, she decided to save the babay by hiding him. Zeus grew up around the nymphs and fairy goat Amaltheia that tended and nursed him. With zeus growing quickly, it wasnt long before he grew into a great new god. He then made a impenetrable breastplate from the goats hide and now Zeus was strong enough that Cronus could do nothing in his power to stop him. After Cronus puked up his other children, he then surendered to Zeus and his brother and sisters. Zeus then became lord of the universe and shared his power with his brother and sisters. Throught his lifetime, Zeus had many wifes, but his sister Hera remained his queen.

In Norse mythology, Thor is the god of thunder. Thor, along with all the other gods and Asgard people, live in Asgard. His father was the all great Odin and his mother was a giantess named Jord. He also has half-brothers and a blood-brother named Loki. Even though Thor and Loki were blood-brothers, they were always arch-enemies. Thor got married to Siff and had a mistress named Jarnsaxa. With Siff, Thor had a daughter named Thrud, and with Jarnsaxa Thor had two sons named Magni and Modi. Although Zeus and Thor are alike in many ways, thier role in mythology is entirely different. Unlike Zeus, Thor is not the ruler of men and all gods but the protector of men and all gods. With his short-handled hammer, called Mjolnir, a pair of iron gloves that helped him wield the hammer, and a belt that increased strength, he was seen as the protector of gods and men. Along with all his other gear, Thor also had a chariot. The chariot was pulled by two goats named Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjo'ster. Unlike regular goats, Thor could cook these goats to eat them and bring them back to life to ounce again pull his chariot.

Now that you know about These amazing gods, you can cast your vote for who you think is the better god. I hope you have fun with this and may the better god win.

  4. Look it up. Zeus is Thor nephew. Thor is the Brother of Kronos. Thor would kick off in Zeus ass no question. Team Thor! But be sure to look up the relationship between Kronos and Thor. Thor is not a Titan so don't worry

    1. What? Thor is from norse mythology and Zeus is from greek. They are not related, I'm asuming that you are a gamer or read comics because no where in greek or norse mythology is that implied and for the record Zeus would win over thor any day. Zeus was the king of gods,he had seniority over Thor and even if thor was his uncle then Zeus could have still won. He and the rest of his sibilings defeated the titans who were very powerful in their own right. Dont forget that the titans defeated the primeordials but i wont waste anymore time on you since it is clear that you have no knowledge of either mythology.

    2. Gods and Goddesses do actually have equivelents in different cultures, you would know that if you were a good Pagan. Jupiter is Roman God equivelent of Greek God Zeus. Jupiters Day is THORS-DAY (Thursday) This is basic Pagan 101

In marvel Stan Lee created the comics so in a way Zeus and thor were related. However the greeks had nothing to do with thor!!

  7. The funny thing is I have actually done research on this at the collegiate level. As it turns out Zeus is only comparable in strength to the Judeo-Christian god. That's no exaggeration. In terms of strength Thor comes nowhere near Zeus.

    1. I know, I make it sound like a sport. What I mean is I did a research paper on comparative mythology between Zeus and Odin in a myths in literature class I had taken. Admittedly that wasn't Thor, but it still remains the same. I was blown away at how strong Zeus actually was.

    2. I would love it if you linked me your research paper I’d like to read it in detail or if not you can tell me how zeus is as powerful as Christian god?

    3. Little late to this but that is wrong, there are many gods in Greek mythology alone that would trounce Zeus with zero effort.

  9. If Odin and Zeus have the same amount of power (from my
research) and that Thor is weaker then his dad Odin so wouldn't that mean that Zeus is stronger in a way.😀

    1. Thor is the strongest and will be because he surpasses odin as odin is stronger than ZEUS ultimately thor is stronger
      Sorry strongest

  13. I have no idea what these people are talking about. Zeus isn't related to Thor at all. The Greek and Scandinavian civilizations weren't related to that degree nor did they exist at a close time. Stan Lee, rest his beautiful soul, did a complete different take on the mythologies. Thor isn't even blonde or a good person in the actual mythos. He's like a drunk red-bearded viking and a mass psychopathical murderer.

  14. Thor at least doesent have sex with own sister like zeus did

  15. Tobi is a good boy, Yes, you're right about Thor {ON/OE:Þórr/Þunor} and Zeus not being related in the slightest, and that the Greeks and the Norse never really came into much contact with each other, but we can't say that they never came into contact with each other because we simply just don't know, we can only speculate. Stan Lee {RIP} and company wanted to get a larger audience interested in their work, so to that degree I understand why they changed the mythologies of the Greeks and the Norse {especially Greek myth} but I have to admit that I hate having to clear-up misconceptions about Norse myth, like Thor and Loki being blood brothers and arch-enemies. Loki is the blood brother of Odin {Óðinn/Woden} not Thor.

    True: Thor is not blond or blue-eyed but rather red haired, bearded, and green-eyed. Thor is not a Psychopath, he loves his children, and is quite caring and is really hard working. When he is not working, he is either with family or out partying. Sure he likes fighting but he does it to protect mankind from the Jötnar and because it's a job not his whole identity. Yes, he loves to drink and is said to be a good drykkjumaðr { drinking man or someone who can drink their fill}

A psychopath is a person completely lacking empathy. If Thor was a psychopath, why did he protect mankind?

  18. idk how close of a match a Jotun is to a Titan...(surely a titan is greater than your average Jotun, but than again theres 12 titans in there whole universe, vs. a whole race of Jotuns) but theres a tale of how Utgard-loki, A Jotun KING admitted that had any single one of Thors swings connected with him it would have killed him on the spot, and not to mention Thor does take down Jormungandr before succumbing to its poison...thats a mf-ing world spanning serpent. even if a Titan takes more blows than a Jotun king, I'd say Thors got a hella chance at blasting some Titan-ass, and would probably no problem stand toe to toe with Zeus.

also there i feel like the whole 'thunder/lightning' dominion just cancels out here, and I'm leaning toward Thor in regards to a brawl.
but i dont think this would be a easy fight for either party...also in regards to the comment concerning Zeus vs. Odin in power, Odins not a war god like Thor, different pantheon(norse and greeks) and cultures that called for a totally different role from there 'lead' God.

    1. the bit about there being only 12 titans vs a race of jotuns: what i meant by that is i dont doubt that a titan is going to wipe the floor with a average joe jotun. but i equally doubt that they'd be able to do so against a king, or significantly powerful jotun.

  19. I love all mythology, and don't care which it is. I would, have, and still WILL read all mythology. But if we are supposed to take favs... Thor all the way!! besides, all those who think they are different, they have been compared throughout history, and are similar in many different ways
