Ares Vs. Tyr

In both Norse and Greek mythology, Tyr and Ares are both gods of war. Although they are both gods of war, that does not mean they are the same. Not only are thier persinalities different, but thier morals are also different.

Ares
In Greek mythology, Ares is the Greek god of war. Zeus and Hera are his parents, and Athena is one of his half-sisters. His full siblings are Hebe, Eris, Hephaestus, and Eileithyia. Ares is an extremely powerful, dangerous, hated, and feared god. Even his father, Zeus, once called him the worst of his children. Ares’ weapon of choice is the spear and shield. Along with his companion Eris, the spirit of strife, he loves to go into battle to and quench his thirst of war and bloodshed. Although he might seem tough because he is the god of war, he cannot stand the feeling of pain. Whenever Ares gets hurt, he sends out a scream that can be heard all around the world. He then proceeds to run to Zeus so his wound can be healed. One of Ares good traits though, is that he is extremely handsome. The trait of being handsome and strong is the only reason why Aphrodite, the goddess of love, is the only god who admires him. Ares has even been caught in bed with Aphrodite while her husband, Hephaestus, was away.

Tyr

In Norse Mythology, Tyr is the god of war.  In stories he is depicted as a noble and brave man. There is much speculation on where Tyr came from. Some say he is the son of Odin, and some say he is the son of the giant Hymir. One great story showcasing his bravery is how he lost his hand. When Odin found out Loki had children, he summoned them to him so he could take a look at them. One of the children, named Fenrir, represented greed and destruction and took the form of a wolf. While living in the outer courts of Asgard, Tyr was the only god brave enough to go into his lair and feed him. When Fenrir become too powerful, the gods decided to bind him down. The gods then made it a game for Fenrir. To make sure he was not being tricked, he wanted a god to put their hand in his mouth. Tyr was the only god brave enough to come forth and put his hand in Fenrir’s mouth. At first, Tyr put his left hand into Fenrir’s mouth, but Fenrir then demanded that Tyr put his right hand into his mouth because it was his sword hand. After finding out he could not break the chain, he bit Tyr’s hand off because he knew he had been tricked. Although Tyr lost his dominant hand, he still fought bravely during Ragnarök and died from killing the guardian of hell, Gram.

Zeus Vs. Thor

In mythology, Zeus and thor are both associated with thunder, lightning, and they both have a enourmus amount of strength. Although they are alike in many ways, they also differ in what there role was in mythology. With that in mind, the real question is, which god is better.

In Greek mythology, Zeus is the god of thunder. Zeuses, along with all the other gods, lives ontop of Mount Olympus with his two brothers, three sisters, and eight children. Before we get to his life as god of all gods though, lets talk about his childhood. Zeuses mother was Rhea and his father was Cronus. Since Cronus knew that one of his sons was going to be stronger than him, everytime Rhea gave birth, he swallowed the baby. When Rhea was expected to give birth for the sixth time, she decided to save the babay by hiding him. Zeus grew up around the nymphs and fairy goat Amaltheia that tended and nursed him. With zeus growing quickly, it wasnt long before he grew into a great new god. He then made a impenetrable breastplate from the goats hide and now Zeus was strong enough that Cronus could do nothing in his power to stop him. After Cronus puked up his other children, he then surendered to Zeus and his brother and sisters. Zeus then became lord of the universe and shared his power with his brother and sisters. Throught his lifetime, Zeus had many wifes, but his sister Hera remained his queen.

In Norse mythology, Thor is the god of thunder. Thor, along with all the other gods and Asgard people, live in Asgard. His father was the all great Odin and his mother was a giantess named Jord. He also has half-brothers and a blood-brother named Loki. Even though Thor and Loki were blood-brothers, they were always arch-enemies. Thor got married to Siff and had a mistress named Jarnsaxa. With Siff, Thor had a daughter named Thrud, and with Jarnsaxa Thor had two sons named Magni and Modi. Although Zeus and Thor are alike in many ways, thier role in mythology is entirely different. Unlike Zeus, Thor is not the ruler of men and all gods but the protector of men and all gods. With his short-handled hammer, called Mjolnir, a pair of iron gloves that helped him wield the hammer, and a belt that increased strength, he was seen as the protector of gods and men. Along with all his other gear, Thor also had a chariot. The chariot was pulled by two goats named Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjo'ster. Unlike regular goats, Thor could cook these goats to eat them and bring them back to life to ounce again pull his chariot.
